East coast holidays are the shizzzznit

So, my biggest fear about moving back east was the whole idea of winter again. And to be frank, I got used to the same old shit in CA. I mean, there were fluctuations here and there, but for the most part it was rather perfect weather. I missed the real marked season, as it is a mark of time passing. I like time passing, I like marked time, thus when the leaves started to turn, I got very very excited.
We got close to 7 inches of snow overnight by our house. We didn’t panic, we in fact LOVED it. I spent an hour clearing the walkway, the driveway, the car. I got myself some knee-high Mudruckers, and took the shovel and went at it. It is really, really beautiful here. The air is so fucking crisp in the winter, it fills you up with what seems to be a clean energy. I really thought I would dread it, but alas, I don’t.
I am sure sometimes this blog seems retarded in the sense that it is a positive almost 100% of the time.
sorry about that. I tend to be the happiest cynical guy I know. The job is good, the wife is good, married life is great, the snow is beautiful and finally I get to see both sides of my family for the holidays. We get to split the time between my mother and my inlaws. I really couldn’t feel happier.
We may end up crashing at a friends in NYC for New Years, it will be the first time I spend New Years in NYC. Should be fucking amazing. I do miss the fantastic food of the urban scene, and the great people, but I am a happy country bumpkin. I like the solitude and quiet out here, and I love that for the most part, I get to control what kind of shit I wanna do! I don’t feel the slow sting of social obligations out here, cuz once it’s cold and people get home, they rarely wanna come back out! sweet!
I am cupping production coffees tomorrow, along with some awesome peer roasters (Ritual, INtelligentsia, Barismo, Novo) all in the quest to find my palate and to see where it is calibrated.
Lots of awesome stuff happening with the roasting dept. too, things that I am very very happy about. Lots of work, but also lots of play.

sorry, no pic pic today!

We are getting a 32″ flat screen LCD HGTV this week, you don’t understand, this makes me a very very happy man.

  1. I’ll be praying for your back pain to hold off…
Just kidding, cheers to crisp fucking air and happy cynicism.
Shoot me an email sharing the details of your flatscreen choice and how you are going to make your decision, I’m almost there…

  2. Love the roasters’ holiday cards.
